For nonhuman but humanoid characters with horns and wings natively, or odd-coloured blood, will they be keeping it in the setting, or no?

And for a more character-specific question: I'm considering apping an angelic character to the game. He has two forms, a 'human' form, and his true form, with the human form being a 'disguise' as he travels in canon claiming to be a human. Canon doesn't explain more than that so it's kind of in a grey area.

Is it okay for him to switch between the two forms cosmetically? I can forego the light halo and the wings but it would be cool to have an eye colour or hair length change for this character to indicate emotional intensity, as he is of the expressionless variety.

We've decided the that the shifting brings it into powers territory even if it's just cosmetic! If nothing else, because it is a little close to the Wild City powerset. That said, if the character consistently had wings and horns, or odd-colored blood as a default, we don't see a need to powercap it or have that changed.

Basically, you can choose to have him arrive in Imeeji with his true form, or his human form. Either would be fine, we just ask that there not be any switching done even though the difference is only cosmetic.

Not to begin with, due to the lives and different mechanics that make Imeeji differ from previous team games. The primary purpose of player or team capping in team games to make sure an unweildly number of characters don't participate in games, making it harder to run for, but with lives making games less absolutely necessary we're going to watch and see how it goes.

Personally, I don't want to begin with a cap simply because team games without fail have some major character turnover within the first month, as players find if they do or do not like the team game format, and if it is capped to begin with that turnover may be harder to handle.

Basically, I would say no to begin with though I am keeping open options to change this if I feel it's necessary. We're also going to try and keep the team sizes roughly equal, so we don't have two people on pep!pep! and ten people on AlcheME! This is why we ask for tiers of team preferences on the app, rather than giving everyone their first choice.

Are characters with split personality allowed? I realize that could overlap a bit with one of AlcheME's powers.

Split personalities that don't come with physical changes or physical boosts to ability are fine. If that is a thing canonically, we request that the mysterious superpowers of the other personality be nerfed, like any other powers would be. Mysterious physical changes like height and eye color should also be nerfed, but if one personality wears their hair differently that's fine.

I feel like maybe this info was covered in a plurk or maybe the original gdocs but I don't think I saw it spelled out anywhere on the current info pages, though I see a mention in one of the answers here.

But to clarify, are all original canon powers capped/gone with no way to regain them?

Correct. Because there will be some level of PvP it's better if everyone has the opportunity to have some powers, without it being a contest of which players are the most invested in powergaming and purchasing the most powers or apping the strongest characters or whatnot.

As such, the only powers available will be the team abilities which can be purchased for 1000 points each.

In the case of characters from series with multiple routes or other kinds of branching events, is it okay to have them regain memories from different routes or should we stick to just one timeline?

Players should pick one route/canonpoint UNLESS
1. by nature of the canon it already makes sense for the character in question to have experiences from multiple routes (canonical time-looping, for instance)

or

2: You au some timespace fuckery into the canon so that it makes sense for the character to have experiences from multiple routes, since we do allow apps from AUs. This would count as an AU rather than a canon character.

The mod team's reasoning is as follows: Typically in VNs a character may develop differently in different routes-- in a lot of otome games the characters behave/develop differently depending on if you court them or not. So if a guy is being a major villain in one route but on a redemption arc in another, it would be clearly awkward to have both sets of memories. Bad end vs Good end characterization can also be pretty vastly different, and while there are games where it wouldn't matter too much to include multiple route memories, like... someone apping from Hatoful Boyfriend, but if someone did that with like a Gekka Ryouran Romance character where the routes do make a huge difference it'd be strange. This also helps the player better keep track of the character's characterization and what's happening along those lines.

In summary: stick to one route, unless you're playing from a canon that already integrates all the routes or you're apping from an AU that somehow or another integrates things from all routes.

SO HERE'S THE THING, the character I'm apping is canonically a normal human girl who is terminally ill and just spends all her time in a VR environment to compensate for her poor health. SPOILERS: She dies at the end.

Mmmmy intention is to app her to Imeeji with icons from her VR avatar (since there's like .5% canon for her RL looks). Would this be an issue? Also, considering I'm apping her post-death I was hoping there'd be no need to deal with any of the illness stuff, but I wanted to check with you guys first, obviously.

tl;dr: My canon is bad, help???

Playing her on VR icons would not be an issue.

Playing her without terminal illness is also not an issue.

In general regarding illnesses or specific character health requirements where they aren't necessarily ill but need like, elizabeth bathory-style blood baths to live: you don't have to play with anything that would be extremely debilitating if you don't want to. That said, if hypothetically your character has a canonical issue like poorly explained shojo disease that means they cough up blood sometimes and you do want to play with that and have everyone be extremely concerned, you may. It's not a power, there's no requirement to nerf it or carry it over. Please choose to do whatever you prefer to play with.

I have a couple of questions!

1. For characters who do not come from a modern world--has their transportation here given them a background level of knowledge to be familiar with the modern world, or should they still be completely clueless when it comes to technology and modern concepts? For example, the character I want to app (the same journal I'm using now) comes from a fictional, pre-modern country and would have no idea what computers or phones are, much less how to use them. Is it okay to play her as such?

2. Obviously characters lose all magical skills. What about regular skills? For example: Yona here knows how to shoot a bow and arrow in canon. Would she have simply forgotten that she can do this (and can shoot perfectly if she were to encounter a bow) or is this a skill that would have to be re-learned or re-remembered through memory regain in order to work?

3. How much magic is removed? Clearly characters can't use powers of any kind, but what about background things that have no real function? My character is the reincarnation of another person who has a special connection to other people. She can't sense them from a distance or read thoughts/feel their feelings or anything of that nature, but essentially she simply has very strong feelings linked to them/for them that are at least in some part attributable to her past life/pre-incarnation that would affect a first-meeting with them. Is it correct to assume that's all gone?

1. The info page reads, "All characters start with a smartphone! Even with amnesia, they somehow know how it works."

But as how to use the phone is the only thing established that all characters should know waking up in Imeeji, it's totally fine if it's the only knowledge she's been given, with no other context! She can (and probably should) find running water, elevators, cars, light fixtures, and anything else you wish to be mysterious and strange! She also probably can find the phone mysterious and strange, but somehow she knows how to call a Live and use it to open doors. It's like someone downloaded the information into her head, rather than if she'd learned it normally and has context for it and just forgot.

Hi! I have a couple of questions, if that's okay.

1) Is there any limit on the threads that can be submitted as sample threads in the app, aside from length? Are there any restritions on, say, where they come from or when they have to have been posted? Is it acceptable to give examples that were not a part of the test drive?

We would like players to have a registry just to keep track of what they have and haven't gotten back, but you may organize it however you like. If you would just like a list that is a jumble of scenes with no organization, that's fine by us.

1) There are no restrictions on where they came from as long as they're illustrative threads-- if the thread is a wildly AU slice of life crossover baker's street wedding scene where stoic mcbadass is being smoopy, we might ask for another, but largely there's no limits. So definitely threads do not have to come from the test drive, it's just an option!

Also, there is no timelimit, but we would like players to keep in mind whether or not any possible sample threads reflect their current understanding of the canon and the character. If you have threads from before a major canon revelation and your app is written to reflect the characterization from after the reveal, but your threads are from before that and do not, we might ask for another thread.

2) Free game, do it as you wish. We just ask there be a memory registry so you can keep track of what your character has received back. If you'd like to do the traditional neg/pos/neu dividers, you are free to! And if you'd prefer not to, you don't have to.
