Hell Graduation & Life After imeeji

So your character has graduated to Hell! What happens now?

DemonhoodHell's BountyVisitationLiving AccommodationsDefecting & Liar HellJobs

Demonhood back to top
Graduates become demons, losing their souls (or more accurately, their souls are demonified). At this point, idols may acquire corruptions willingly, and any corruptions they currently have, they now have the ability to suppress/control it to a degree (up to the player!). If idols had their souls healed through Heaven before, and they are not willing to take in corruptions, they will not regain corruptions until they get into a fight with a demon. At that point, you can assume any life-threatening injuries (which are liable to happen, since no one can really "die" in Hell) will result in the character taking on additional corruptions.

Hell graduates regain their original-world abilities (please do not break the setting tia) and retain their unit abilities but do not get unit ability updates. If there are any ability revamps in the future, graduates do not receive them.

Unless explicitly choosing to take the Liar Hell path (granted to Auditioned Idols), all graduates are Vengeance Hell demons until/unless they defect to another Hell.

Hell's Bounty back to top
Upon Hell graduation, graduate's home world will be aligned to Vengeance Hell, officially owned by Asmodeus. As a result, souls that leave this world will either:
  • Go through their natural non-Heaven&Hell afterlife if such is native to the canon (e.g. Exalted reincarnation, Final Fantasy lifestream), or
  • Go to Vengeance Hell to join the sea of the Damned
In other words, if there's a textual afterlife in one's canon, characters can still go there—Vengeance Hell is, perhaps peculiarly, interested in preserving the spiritual ecosystem for the most part. Stray incidents can still happen—souls from Creation may die and veer left into the Hell Abyss instead of staying on the reincarnation cycle's path—but for the most part, canonical afterlife will be preserved.

Worlds that have a conventional Heaven & Hell afterlife (or if it's otherwise unknown canonically) will straightforwardly have all souls taken to Vengeance Hell. If the canon has an alternative to Heaven but does have a Hell (e.g. Bleach's Soul Society), the alternative will still exist—though the graduate will be aware that Vengeance Hell is the higher power—and souls that stray from that alternative will find themselves in Vengeance Hell.

Should there be graduates of varying paths (e.g. someone graduated to Hell, then someone afterwards graduated to Heaven), the world will be spiritually and temporally bisected—that is to say, the world will have an alternate/branching timelines, one that is Hell-aligned and one that is Heaven-aligned.

Visitation back to top
Hell Graduates may visit their own home world, as well as any other worlds that are either not at play (that is, no appable worlds*) or Hell-aligned. As a rule of thumb, Vengeance Hell demons may not visit Heaven-aligned worlds, unless explicitly granted the conditional ability to do so, e.g. Aries' ability to go to any member of WILD CITY. Exceptions may be granted to Liar Hell demons—noted below (see: Liar Hell Demons). Hell Graduates may, however, spend time with Heaven Graduates by visiting the Graduation Center. Due to the nature of Tokyo-F, they may not use their canonical abilities within imeeji (though they are free to use their unit abilities).

(*Hell Graduates can visit OCverses that have not yet been apped from, and players may app from these OCverses post-Hell Graduates influence. However, please note that such apps will be more heavily scrutinized.)

Regardless, all graduate demons are under NDA—they may not talk about imeeji or Hell etc to anyone who's not ex-imeeji or otherwise not currently a demon of Vengeance or Liar Hell, even when talking to those who may have benefited directly from the wish (e.g. someone who was revived via graduation wish). Additionally, when entering a world of any alignment, they'll be masked by a normalcy illusion—those unaffiliated (not a demon, not a graduate) will be unable to perceive their demonic corruptions to any degree.

Hell Graduates, as bonafide demons, may visit Liar, Vengeance, and other Hells as they please without paying the ferry. However, it's socially discouraged to do so frequently (or at least, one should always be mindful of being covert about it) as repeated visits to other factions may result in conspiracies of betrayal on Vengeance's side and scandalous rumors on Liar's side.

As demons, Hell Graduates are free to visit non-graduated transfers (musebox @ [community profile] imeeji_postproduction). However, transferred idols are, without exception, in rougher positions (no stable jobs, will regularly lose all autonomy and become a soulless bot/fade into near nonexistence) and are always in Liar Hell. Graduates currently cannot long-term affect dropped characters' lives for the better, with the exception of ☆ZRAEL and BARiTONES transfers, as well as transfers from Trails of worlds, who may still lose autonomy and become soulless bots but will never fade into oblivion, so long as they reside in WAR G☆D's Safehouse.

Beyond that, Hell Graduates can lend transfers a couch to stay for the night, but they cannot support the transferred idol's existence.

As of Day 402, all Hell and Heaven Graduates may contact each other via text, voice, and video chat through their phones.

Living Accommodations back to top
All graduates of the imeeji Idol Program are given a stipend roughly equivalent (possibly, probably, definitely skimmed from) to how much work they've done in the program. The currency is not consistent in form—sometimes it's vouchers, sometimes it's soulsilver, sometimes it's parchment with ancient secrets—but it does seem to be consistent in value. It's enough to live off of with limited comfort, though all graduates are made aware that eventually these stipends will run out and that they'll want to invest in other jobs before long—especially since they're conditionally immortal now (unaging, can be killed, can't die from disappearing).

As for housing, imeeji Idol Program will connect with local housing agencies to help the newly graduated get an apartment within their budget. If they want anything bigger than that, they'll have to work and eventually haggle with someone to get a house—or they can like, beat someone to death and steal their house, but generally demons with houses are going to be higher on the totem pole and thus in all likelihood stronger than baby demons.

Defecting & Liar Hell back to top
(Note: Liar Hell graduates and Liar Hell defectors are distinctly different. Liar Hell graduates will receive protection for their world, whereas the worlds of Liar Hell defectors still belong to Vengeance.)

While as a default, most graduating idols will swear their immortal souls to Asmodeus, it is possible (though extremely discouraged) to defect from Vengeance Hell and join another Hell. However, most Hells are unaccommodating to ex-humans and baby demons, and besides that Vengeance Hell is very good at finding their traitors and disposing of them. For this reason, most defectors who survive find residence in Liar Hell, due to the territory's size, overwhelming might, and disposition to be a cultural melting pot.

Naturally, defectors to Liar Hell are unwelcome in Vengeance Hell. Technically, all Vengeance demons have a duty to kill defectors on sight, but this may be played however you wish—whether a Vengeance-aligned graduate is just turning a blind eye or whether they're actively antagonistic to defectors, being seduced by defectors, etc.

Those who defect to Liar Hell, and auditions who graduate on the Liar Hell path, may visit Heaven-aligned worlds as well as any other worlds that are either not at play (that is, no appable worlds, see: Visitation) so long as they do so under the premise of "being an angel." This goes beyond pretending—if a visitor seems incapable of acting convincingly, they will be temporarily (or perhaps permanently!) mindfucked to genuinely believe they are an angel. Naturally, visitors of this stripe are under NDA in regards to imeeji and the true nature of Liar Hell. (They may talk broadly about other Hells, but Liar Hell is always presented as true Heaven.)

"Angels" come in three visiting forms:

  • Guardian Angel: Capable of visiting one specific person. Guardian Angels cannot leave their person's side, nor can they be seen by anyone who isn't an imeeji graduate (or fellow "Angel"—or, in the cases of neutral worlds, other demons from different Hells). They can, however, interact specifically with threats to their person's life, and otherwise protect them from dangers. When visiting, they may perform minor acts of miracles to a person's circumstances, e.g. gambles have a much higher chance of paying off, career is doing well, love life is blossoming, etc.
  • Blessing Angel: Capable of visiting one specific event. Blessing Angels cannot visit any point in time that is not that event (though events may be broad, e.g. "when a baby is born") and they cannot visit any area beyond where the event is taking place. When visiting, they may perform minor acts of miracles to the environment, e.g. making a tree bloom when it's out of season. They may interact with others as vague, nondescript mystery passerbys that disappear only to never be seen again. Who was that lady?
  • Protection Angel: Capable of visiting one specific place. Protection Angels cannot leave their designated location. They may interact with others as animals (e.g. a stray cat), and during their stay, they prevent catastrophes from occurring in the area. They may perform minor acts of miracles to the area, whether environmental or circumstantial (e.g. crop harvests are better, through sheer luck a rich person from outside the area decides to donate money to the local orphanage, etc).

Jobs back to top
Anyway, jobs! Graduates may directly start working for the imeeji Idol Program on either the Liar or Vengeance side:

  • Game Host: The faces of imeeji's staff. In charge of running games for the imeeji Idol Program. In charge of everything regarding presentation of game—for example, getting permits for the appropriate venues to be installed into the Game Tower, or determining the refreshments provided to idols. Some Game Hosts are also Game Planners.

  • Game Planner: In charge of planning games for the imeeji Idol Program, as well as planning spin-off programs and merchandise. Very often are assigned editors and quality checkers so that the games are actually entertaining and legal between Liar and Vengeance Hells.

  • Video Editor: Lucky demons in this field get to dedicate hours and hours of their unlife to editing thousands and thousands of hours of imeeji footage. They alternately may be lucky enough to be a Game Planner's reins, and make sure the games being planned are actually good ones.

  • Propmasters: Prop and set designers. They follow Game Host instructions to make the set game-ready.

  • Security: What it says on the tin. People in this position make sure imeeji Idols and Tokyo-F are safe—often, this means screening Fanmail to make sure it doesn't have any dangerous elements, and patrolling the borders of Tokyo-F to make sure there isn't anyone trying to get in or out. Generally, the concern is more with fans or anti-fans trying to get in than it is with idols getting out—the nature of Tokyo-F being Transgressor territory means that anyone trying to cross the border will 80-90% of the time end up in Transgressor Hell instead of Tokyo-F, and while a third party contractor (Lilith) is in charge of retrieving idol souls, no such service exists for the Damned.

Since Transgressor Hell is notorious for experimentally torturing their Damned and making objects and currency out of the tortured souls (don't think too much about where soulsilver comes from), the job of security is to prevent harm from coming from fans and anti-fans alike. Vengeance Hell especially can't afford to let their population size shrink—these may be idiots, but they're Asmodeus's idiots.

The imeeji Idol Program has connections to a Vengeance Hell job placement agency that employs them directly under Asmodeus, and graduates are able to take aptitude tests to determine what they would best work under. Here are some examples of the kinds of Vengeance Hell government jobs a character might be able to work via the job placement agency:

  • Grudge Documentarian: Survey and make records of all grudges held by the recent dead coming into Vengeance Hell, and have them stored on file. Naturally, works in Hell, though they may go scouting in the living world to write reports on the objects of the newly dead's grudges.

  • Avenger of Unavenged Wrongs: What it says on the tin. Avengers likely work in the living world, and may spend their time doing anything from making sure people get caught shop-lifting to assassinations to planting cookies on people so everyone knows who the dorm fridge food thief is. Essentially, workers in this field practice and execute instant karma. People usually specialize in this department, either by method or by degree of deserved vengeance.

  • Miscommunications Manager: In charge of making sure people don't clear up misunderstandings, so that they continue to pettily resent each other. May work in the living world or in Hell.

  • Spy: A most dangerous job. Spies are planted, usually in one of the other Hells, to live their life as though they were always a demon denizen of the region. While living there, spies may either be tasked with subtly sabotaging the Hell using previously-gotten information, or be tasked with obtaining that information and passing it along to Vengeance HQ in the first place. This job is vital to the success of Asmodeus's vengeance against all those other fucker demon princes.

  • Immigration Officer: Plucks souls from other Hells to consign the Vengeance sea of the Damned. If the soul has enough vengeance seething in their heart, such that they won't integrate with the sea of the Damned, then it's the officer's job to get that soul on the right track for their Vengeance.

  • Emigration Officer: A nice word for "assassin who hunts down traitors."

  • Talent Scout: Works in the living world, finding promising candidates for post-demise service and making sure they live a life that's going to wind them up in Asmodeus's Hell, rather than one of the others—vengeance and hedonism, in other words, are a talent scout's priorities for life.

  • Informant: Freelancers who work in bars, hotels, or similar areas. Plants that keep an ear out for interesting information. Informants are in charge of maintaining the electronic bugs in their respective establishments, and making sure they're moved regularly so as to evade customer detection.

  • Exterminator: The small-but-newly growing department of Angel extermination. Exterminators venture to every existing world to search for any Holy traces of Heaven, or otherwise, of Angels. A job that yields very, very, very little success in any capacity, except for the occasional false positive of Liar Hell demons posing as Angels in whatever world.

These are by no means all jobs available at the agency, and are most certainly not all jobs available ever—Hell is still a society, and you can assume any given job in the modern day is one that can be done in either Hells as well, though these more mundane jobs will have to be found independently. You may assume a character went around various different jobs before getting the one that fits them.

While Liar Hell also has a job placement agency, all jobs are going to be variations of the imeeji Idol Program jobs, but for different programs, including becoming an idol again or becoming an actor/musician/etc.

In Liar Hell, many jobs are under established unions (and a lot of them are grifts!), but in Vengeance Hell, there aren't as many unions and the ones that do exist are generally on the smaller and less effective side (and some of them are still grifts!), just by virtue of being a generally newer concept (and due to the nature of Vengeance government). Graduates may start unions, though it should be noted that jobs involving subterfuge (spy, informant) cannot be unionized.
