Downtime Actions

Sometimes, your characters have long-term projects that might end up being plot relevant, or maybe your characters are hosting something that would be long-term community relevant. Maybe your character's on a campaign to read every book in the library in an effort to research everything there is to know about demons, or maybe they're grinding off-screen CR and skills through first aid classes, military training, regular lockpicking/jailbreaking practice, etc! Or maybe you're just looking to do a lowkey plot thing and have an idea of when you want to start playing with the results.

Whatever it is, this is the post for it! Here, we're looking for players to post plot/community efforts that aren't a single adventure, but an extended effort/off-screen grind.

Here's how it works:

1. Fill out the copypasta at the bottom of this post.
   
2. Mods will respond with the results of those efforts, along with a timeline (e.g. your character is doing this for 5 OOC months, results start showing in 3)
   
3. You can start playing with those results once the time has passed for that to happen! (If something takes an OOC month and you posted in May, then you can start playing with the results in June!) If a specific adventure follow-up is necessary, we'll let you know!
   
4. Profit!

Some guidelines:

• This post is for both mods and players! We encourage tracking the toplevel comments on this post if you want to be current with what's going on. Feel free to comment on community actions or otherwise get in touch with the player to get in on the fun/use as a springboard for CR! (EX: If someone's character has been burying themself in the library for Demon Research and your character regularly visits, maybe they can hit them up while they're in the library.)


• Downtime actions do not have to be anything big or plotty necessarily, but they must involve some sort of community effort if the character is not pursuing something plot-related. If your character is learning how to do medicine, cool, but that's for yourself. If your character is teaching other people how to do medicine, comment here so future characters/players know this is a service you're doing!


• Downtime actions are always things that can be accomplished entirely within the boundaries of the places the character has regular access to (Tokyo-F and limited parts of Heaven by default). You can't handwave someone running around in Liar Hell to recruit the Damned.

Assets: Bombs. I need to do my points and file a retrospective(?) room upgrade for Stiletto to get a Lab, for Bombs, but I am too excited and want to file this first

Description: Stiletto is snooping around the city and identifying the best places for planting A LOT OF EXPLOSIVES designed to compromise buildings' structural integrity, and planting them. Particular attention paid to organizing them in such a way that a particular set of explosions would cut off a street/cause a gridlock/etc. Definitely planting enough stuff around the hotel so that it can be isolated if need be. Also looking into whether the hotel itself can be compromised. Basically, sometimes you just really need to know you can destroy half a city if you wanted to,

Here's what she'll find upon inspecting the hotel:

• It seems to be particularly difficult to actually figure out what the layout of the hotel is. Digging will get her to metal plating underneath the immediate vicinity of the hotel, and when she leaves the dig site she'll return to find the dirt has returned to its place (like she never dug it up—it's just as packed) and she'll have to start over again.


• it will take her about ~1 month of dedicated digging, but in doing so, if she follows the metal plating, she'll find that it is mostly just within the immediate vicinity but there seems to be a diagonal sort of metal plating "arm" going toward the direction of the Game Tower. However, going beyond that requires busting through the street concrete.


• The hotel seems to be pretty uncompromisable, at least on the outside. The inside is definitely susceptible to getting blown up (see: the reason for lobbyquest)

Description: As mentioned in the email we sent to the event mods, from day 341 onward, Hurricane and Nemesis have been examining the remainder of the heaven runes in the ground, attempting to reassemble them somewhat, and making tracings/rubbings of them. After that, they have been hitting the library regularly to do some research on runes/holy symbols/alphabets in an attempt to figure out what the complete runes were both in meaning and look.

Assets: Angel summoning knowledge, a whole lot of worry and free time

Description: As mentioned in the emails I sent to the event mods, since Day 341 Hurricane has been heading out to heaven daily to spend 30 minutes to an hour of trying to get the connection to go through and in general talking at Mehniel through the connection for however long it allows.

Not much of importance will be said; trapped in nothing is just Real Bad, so he will be doing what he can to alleviate it, talking at Mehniel about dumb things for the minute or two of airtime before it goes dead again. Then wash, rinse, repeat.

During some of those snippets of connection, he'll let the angel know that he wants to try and get him out, that he's been trying to figure out where he is, and ask if he has any kind of clue as to where that might be. (At some point, during one of these calls, as also mentioned in an email, he will try to snap a picture of the angel so that C can take a look with the heaven glasses)

Also, from this time onward, his library research expanded to try and find out where Mehniel is.

NOT SURE IF/WHERE I SHOULD MENTION but if these visits have been fairly regular then Hurricane may or may not have run into Pink also checking on the line at one point or another, though he's definitely not dedicated to doing it nearly as often as Hurricane would.

Description: It's time to kick things up a notch! Dva hasn't done much with her abilities since she dabbled with Intensity, so she'd like to see if she can use her oracle abilities to get some insight on anything that may happen in the future of Tokyo-F. Not only that, but things got a bit more serious with snake wife recently, so it's time to take her (new) abilities for a spin!

also! Not sure if you'd like me to make a separate post, but is there any way for her to research what she saw the first time? Like if she dug deep at the library?

Description: After assisting Talon and Jay with scouting a location for [plot item], Yvette has continued exploring Heaven, mapping the area and trying to get a feel for the sentinels' patrol route/schedule. She also goes up there to do landscape and still life paintings. For funsies.

MOD RESPONSE

A couple IC days (~1 OOC week) after Yvette started exploring Heaven, she'd start to notice that there's something that's still in Heaven . . . or otherwise, something else besides her that's disturbing it.

She won't be able to tell what exactly is disturbing Heaven for a while—a lot of the time it seems like it's just other idols—but here are some things she'd have noticed:

• Sometimes there are tiny pieces of what looks to be broken technology around. It looks a little like recording equipment, but it's hard to tell. There's never enough to fully repair it, even with a member of future is now helping, but eventually she'll be able to tell they look like recording devices.


• Somewhere around the Days 370-380, the broken pieces started also having what looks like broken camouflage as well. The camouflage is mundane: paint the same color as the walls, crude cloth or cardboard imitations of things that exist in the Courtyard, etc.


• Sentinels seem to be in a pattern when "undisturbed": every other hour, the ground rumbles in the Fountains (for mortals), and a sentinel appears from what seems to be one of the fountain spigots. In the off hours, the ground rumbles in the Courtyard (for mortals), seemingly phasing out of the walls (or maybe they're part of the walls themselves?). Several appear at once, making clockwise rotations in their respective rooms, before disappearing from whence they came. They don't patrol hallways.


• Sentinels will appear like antibodies when "disturbed": that is, there will just be a lot of sentinels all at once, honing in on the intruder. They go through hallways during this time.


• It's difficult to tell what sets a Sentinel off. It seems that existing too hard or for too long might just be what ends up doing it.


• Whatever is visiting Heaven besides her has set off the sentinels on several occasions, and seems to set them off frequently.


• On occasion, she'll see the sentinels activating for seemingly no reason at all, only for them to attack a random wall or item or something before retreating. Upon investigation, she'll see the spot is where more of that broken technology is.


• On Day 407 she'll catch a lion tail going through a portal in the area that has [plot item], before it disappears.

Plot/Community

Description: I am sorry for this dumbass idea, but Childe's going to see if he can go to Tokyo Dismay Sea / the Zoo in Ueno Park and gain the trust of and train all of the aquatic animals, so he can inevitably use them in some sort of uprising he may or may not bother with, BUT HAVING SOME ANIMAL FRIENDS WILL TOTES HELP. He will eventually try with the other animals, but he's starting with his bread & butter; the sea life.

Title: Raising an Army

Description:
Amaranth seeks out and recruits characters who have combat experience and/or training, and instructs them in how to apply their skills to coordinated combat. (She avoids those who she suspects would not be on the idols' side in an armed revolt, but will not specifically turn them away if they request joining.) Training primarily takes place in the Dead Zone, both for the sake of privacy from cameras and to ensure that all developed skills are not dependent on imeeji abilities. Specifically, recruits are trained to operate in "fangs" of five combatants, with those fangs in turn trained in coordinating with one another as a larger group.

Long-term, the goal is to create a small but functional army capable of being a meaningful threat, even should the idols' imeeji powers be shut off.

Title: Heavenly Gardening

Amaranth and Nem begin discussing collaborating on plot as of Day 349; thread is still being backtagged.
Description:
(See also: email sent June 18, 2021.) Amaranth, Nemesis, and Hurricane plan to try out planting some of the seeds from the heaven apples in the Dead Zone, on the premise that since the area has been purified, it has the best chance of being a place the tree(s) can grow. They will be deliberately doing all planting by hand, with no purchased tools or fertilizer, to absolutely ensure no "contamination." (Seeds can be watered with holy water fetched from Heaven.)

Afterwards, they will continue to regularly check back on their makeshift garden plot to see what, if anything, grows. In lieu of hell-purchased fencing, mounded soil can be used to mark off the area to help prevent anything getting trampled.

MOD RESPONSE

From Days 360 to 402, it will seem as though the seeds are not growing. However, in the morning of Day 403, they'll finally see a couple sprouts from each seed.

From that point on, the plants seem to grow healthily—in fact, the more regularly they're watered with Heaven water, the quicker they seem to grow?

Regular watering will result in the following timeline for tree growth:

• Seed to sprout: 4 OOC months Done!
  
• Sprout to sapling: 3 months
  
• Sapling to tree: 2 months
  
• Tree to budding/flowering: 1 month
  
• Budding/Flowering to bearing fruit: 1 month

Additionally, should further ventures in planting occur, they'll find quicker success using soil nearby the grown trees—each step of the tree growth process will be reduced by 1 month for how concentrated in Holy water the soil is, down to a minimum of 1 month per growth stage.

Note: at the Tree stage of growth, unit abilities will no longer work when standing right next to or underneath the tree.

Description: Izanagi's going to be looking through all Christian theology available, but also anything relating to Judaism or demonology such as the Lesser Key of Solomon. If he finds any other religious or mythical figures whose names have cropped up among the hosts or otherwise key players named in the Compendium, he'll follow any such leads into the relevant religion/mythos research.

But on the plot side, they're unobtrusively looking for any oddities, like cracks in the veneer that makes up Imeeji.

Hurricane has been all over the city since Day 40-ish, on foot and on his motorcycle and all over the rooftops, taking pictures of locations. Mostly he's been scoping out places that are cool and fun and worth hanging out, and learning the streets so he knows all the best shortcuts and rooftop paths, but he's also been using the pics to build a miniature model of the city. While he's out and about, he always keeps an eye out for anything unsual. Much later (post Impocalypse), he and Nemesis explored the sewer system, too.

Time: Literally since like day 5 when he got on his god bullshit and then after he got his corruption removed in heaven for later stuff
Description: C is constantly spreading propaganda to spread the lie about him being a god/ttly gonna become god guys, via art, posters, wanted posters, the C the Light fanmail he gets, grafitti, whatever. He posts bullshit all over the city, and should be doing Vids every week I've just been lazy (and I don't count the points if I don't thread it out). This is also lowkey to try and get attention from other hosts/angels/demons to try and get another bounty on his head to brag about. And get info. But mostly bragging rights. COME AT ME, DEMONS.

He also regularly visits Heaven, mostly the corruption pools, though he has no other corruptions to burn off, he just chills there and writes plans and snoops around til heaven kicks or chases him out. Probably looking for more good heaven shit. He very recently will start bringing the Heaven Glasses up there to see if they reveal anything or if there's any place to put a small temp controlled bomb he's been hording.

But mostly he's just running around trying to get attention all the time.

They are wired to the Hotel's power network.

Description: Izanagi and Hurricane are trying to drop occasional lines here and there hinting that they're developing powers outside of the boundaries of their unit abilities. To test the waters to begin with, Izanagi is suggesting that his healing powers may have an effect on illnesses or disease. They're also trying to begin suggesting that Hurricane seemed to float for a little bit off camera, and will be building it towards "Hurricane can fly."
