The ceiling, walls, and floors of the bedroom are made of wood. Bundles of dried flowers and herbs hang upside down at random intervals and clumps. Built-in bookshelves occupy one whole side of the room with a desk spanning the same length. The shelves are filled not only with books on a wide range of topics, but decorations and knick-knacks of all kinds: Ships in bottles, wreaths of branches, small paintings of the ocean with ornate frames, candles, looped strands of beads, brass bird cages, and more. The opposite side has a small fireplace with a weathered grate set in front of it and cushions and a few blankets arranged around it. Tucked away in a corner are hooks and boards for hanging up any manner of tool, like fishing rods, trowels, and so on, with some vines threaded through the whole affair. Almost as if an afterthought, a modest but fluffy bed is pushed out of the way for whenever rest is desired.
