♫ App Form ♫
Canon, AU, and original characters are all appable. Fandom OCs are appable, provided they have no interaction with canon characters. PG characters are not appable.
- Silent protagonists are appable if they have a solid personality. Malleable protagonists (such as MMO protagonists) are not; Persona protagonists are allowed, but FFXIV's Warrior of Light is not.
- If playing a fandom OC, you may have an AU roughly based on the original world, or play a character made to exist within the world but did not interact with the canon characters. An OC who goes to a made-up school in Harry Potter's universe is allowed, and an OC who went to Hogwarts but didn't interact with any canon character is allowed, but an OC who is directly related to the cast (like Harry's long lost sister) or a character mentioned in passing who is mostly fleshed out via headcanon is not.
- For canons that have more than one medium, please designate which version you are apping from, e.g. the Yu-Gi-Oh! English anime or the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga.
- If you are currently in or were in Imeeji before, you can also app an auditions character.
What canons can I app from?
We do not allow apps from gag series, or otherwise series that have no movement and progression whatsoever, e.g. Spongebob Squarepants or Doraemon, and we reserve the right to reject apps due to canon source as we see fit.
What kind of AUs can I app?
As a general rule of thumb, the character can only be apped as an AU if they could already be apped as-is—AUs cannot be used to add material to the character if they didn't have enough before. Besides that, you can pretty much app any kind of AU, provided the character is either not too far removed from their canon personality (in the case of AUs where the setting is totally different) or the character is sufficiently removed from their canon development (in the case of canon divergence AUs).
Are characters with split personalities allowed?
Split personalities that don't come with physical transformations or additional abilities are acceptable. Any superhuman abilities or physical boosts that come with the personality must be nerfed, and characters cannot grow in height (such as Yami Yugi and Mutou Yugi) or have their eye/hair color changed.
What is the ruling on doubles?
Imeeji allows up to two versions of the same character in game at a time, provided they are substantially different from each other. In the case of characters from different canon continuities, e.g. MCU Peter Parker vs 616 Peter Parker or TRC Syaoran vs Cardcaptor Sakura Syaoran, we treat these as separate characters.
My character has or died of a terminal illness. Do I have to play with that illness?
Only if you'd like! You can assume the character was completely cured upon entering the idol program, or that they were only partially cured and must battle with the symptoms of their illness while in Tokyo-F.
My character is dead. Do I have to play them pre-death?
Nope! You can play them post-death (and with that, having whatever scars they acquired if it was a violent death) if you'd like, or you can play them pre-death if you'd like. It's up to you!
My character's canon has multiple routes/branching events/etc. Can they regain memories from different/all routes?
Please stick to one route/canon point unless 1) the canon lends to the character experiencing multiple routes (canonical timelooping, for instance) or 2) the character is apped from an AU that justifies the character having experienced multiple routes.
My character's screen time is largely comrpised of an online VR avatar. Can I use the VR avatar for my character's icons/can I play a character as their VR avatar?
You may play the character with VR avatar icons. You may also play the character as looking like their VR avatar, so long as no powers or transformations (cosmetic or otherwise) are involved.
My character has special abilities. How will that be affected?
All abilities are completely nerfed, including transformative and cosmetic abilities.
- If your character was previously capable of superhuman senses or strength, they may have above-average but reasonably human senses and strength.
- Disadvantages may be kept: being allergic to sunlight, being unable to eat garlic, having to drink blood, etc.
My character is nonhuman/has a unique physiology. How will that be affected?
- Nonhuman characters can be humanized or left in their original forms (shrunk to Very Tall Human sized if they're usually bigger than that). However, this cannot be changed in the future, so please keep that in mind.
- Extrahuman appendages, such as extra limbs or fangs, may be kept. However, please keep in mind that all canon abilities have been removed, so extra limbs may no longer be prehensile (or at least not have any strength if they are) and fangs may not grow or enable superhuman jaw strength.
- Robot characters are reduced to smartphone capability: taking pictures, recording audio, playing sound files, etc. Robot characters are also allowed to have storage compartments within physical and spatial reason. Anything besides that, e.g. rocket punch hands, is not allowed.
- Animal characters that can speak to humans in canon through an ability are no longer able to do so via that ability, and will have to find other ways to communicate. However, you may app them to WILD CITY with their position as "human" so they can buy verbal speech as an ability.
- Characters with unique physiologies cannot keep their advantages and will have said physiology changed to accommodate the game, e.g. Wolverine could not keep an adamantium skeleton and would come into the game with either a normal human bone skeleton or a skeleton made of low-quality metal that gives no discernible advantage over plain bone.
While we are strict, we are not unreasonable. If your character has a unique physiology and you want to play with it as intact as possible, drop us a line and let us know what abilities come with their physiology and how you plan to nerf it—we're always happy to work with you to figure out a happy middle ground!
My character uses an alternative energy source. Is that allowed, and if so, where does my character get that alternative energy source?
Alternative energy sources are acceptable so long as they are tangible and biological: soul suckers can't consume souls anymore, but vampires can still live off blood. All characters are given nutritionally balanced rations in their designated unit refrigerator, tailored to their needs (although very boring and tasteless to eat).
- Characters that can produce their own food, e.g. solar powered robots or humanoid plants, retain their ability to photosynthesize; however, like humans, they need to consume sunlight every ~4 hours while awake and cannot store surplus food (e.g. solar powered batteries).
My character gets a timeskip/transformation in canon. I currently want to play the character pre-timeskip, but can I play them post-timeskip at some point? How would that work, and could I change my character's appearance?
Physical canon updates are engineered in two ways: the character can either willingly go through cosmetic surgery to look "up to date" (Bodymod on the points shop), or the character can be nonconned into cosmetic surgery by way of a strange little option that shows up in their points shop menu one day that's just called "Undo".
Either way, upon purchase the character will find themself whisked out of Tokyo-F to be put under for surgery, which can be anywhere from painless to extremely painful but vague in actual memory (due to being put under at the time).
Application Process
OK, I'm ready to app!
Great! Please send all applications to imeeji.p@gmail.com with APP - FIRST/SECOND - CHARACTER in the subject line. You may play up to two characters in Imeeji at any given time, and you may app both characters in the same app round, but please keep in mind that after the first character is placed, the second may be put on lower placement priority depending on how the queue looks.
Re-apps just need to have REAPP - CHARACTER in the subject line; optionally, you may add whether you wish to restart their arc, give them corruptions and make them an audition, etc. Please note: players who are re-apping due to idling out of the game, or otherwise having dropped after receiving an email about activity check, may not re-app for at least one month. If it is their second character, they must first pass at least one month of full activity check in order to be placed with their re-app.
As a note: Please do not send your applications in gdoc format. When we receive gdoc apps, we make copies of them for record keeping purposes, but that also means we will not catch any edits made after we've received them. Therefore, please paste all applications into the email's body. If you send an app in gdoc format in the future, please understand we will be making our own copy and will not catch any changes made, so changes must be sent in the email's body.
I'm apping an audition. Anything I should know?
For characters apped as auditions, the "character in Imeeji" section on the app form should be used to describe how and if their time in Hell affected them, in lieu the effects of amnesia. Changes made by being in Hell should be placed in that section of the app.
Are there any rules on what kinds of threads are acceptable to submit with the app?
Nope! All we ask is that the threads are illustrative of the character's personality and outward interaction with characters; if the thread is a wildly AU slice of life crossover bakerstreet wedding scene where Stoic McBadass is being smoopy, we might ask for another, but otherwise, it's probably fine. We also don't have any statute of limitations when it comes to threads, but we would like players to consider whether their sample threads reflect their current understanding of the canon and character, or if the thread is outdated in comparison. If you have threads from before a major canon revalation and your app is written to reflect the characterization from after the reveal even though your threads are before that and do not, we might ask for another thread.
Sent! Accepted! When will I be placed?
Generally, we prioritize players with their first character over players with their second. However, things like unit placement requests and unit compatibility may take priority over first/second, depending on how long the player has been in the queue.
Please note: second characters will only be placed after the first character has been in the game for 1+ months.
